Free Amateur Radio Licensing Class via Zoom.
Weeknights from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, October 18th to October 30th.
Have you been thinking about getting your Ham Radio license, but never had the time or were put off by the process? The current social distancing routine may be the perfect time to become a Ham Radio Operator.
Join your friends, neighbors, and islanders in obtaining a Technician Amateur Radio License. This two week, slower-paced class will enable you to pass your FCC Technician License Exam.
This class is oriented towards people who are looking to spend more time with the material. People who want a little more help in studying. People with no background in electronics.
The classes will be recorded, so you can watch them again for review.
As a licensed Technician Class radio operator, you will be able to both serve your community and enjoy a wide range of radio related activities, including:
• Provide Emergency Communications (BEARS, BI Prepares, Map Your Neighborhood, Flotilla, Family Reunification, etc.)
• Support Community Events (Chilly Hilly, Rotary Auction…)
• Using an inexpensive handy-talkie you can use local repeaters that each serve a 50 mile radius
• Communicate with amateur radio satellites
• Longer range communications, using HF frequencies (1-30 MHz), are available for voice or digital communication modes throughout the world
• Enter contests, collect awards and QSL cards, build antennas and station accessories
We recommend that you schedule your online exam for the conclusion of the second week. We’ll provide a link to schedule your exam.
A couple of weeks after the exam, we will have a follow-up session to help you get your radio programmed and get you talking on the air. We want you to use and enjoy your radio!
Classes meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. Review sessions are Saturday mornings from 10 am to 11 am.
